Rationale. A Kyoto machiya townhouse as a wallet: daylight through shoji, warm kiri wood, and a veranda, the engawa, running along the edge between inside and outside. That veranda is the navigation, the threshold you walk to move between rooms. Privacy is the shoji screen itself: light gets through, shapes don't. The mood is morning-calm, unhurried, impeccably tidy.
Risk taken. "Japanese minimal light" drifts toward generic kinfolk beige. The counter is architecture, not mood: the engawa rail as a real structural element, shoji-grid 1:2 proportions governing the card grid, and wood grain doing honest work.
